What does your voice look like?

Your voice is as unique as your fingerprint. Record yourself and see the shape of your sound in seconds — completely free.

Every voice has a shape

You've heard your voice your entire life, but you've never seen it. Until now.

When you speak, your vocal cords vibrate at frequencies unique to you. The pitch, tone, volume, and rhythm of your speech create a pattern that belongs to no one else on earth. Even identical twins have slightly different voice patterns.

SoundViz captures these vibrations and translates them into a visual waveform — a colorful, artistic representation of the sound you make. It's part science, part art, and entirely personal.

Try it right now

1. Click "See your voice now" to open the SoundViz editor.

2. Hit the microphone button and say something — your name, "I love you," a favorite quote, or just "hello."

3. Watch your voice appear as a unique waveform pattern. No two will ever be the same.

You can record as many times as you want. Try whispering vs. shouting. Try singing vs. speaking. Watch how the waveform changes with your emotions, volume, and pitch. It's fascinating and surprisingly addictive.

The science behind voice visualization

Sound travels as waves through the air. These waves have two key properties: frequency (how high or low the sound is) and amplitude (how loud it is).

Your voice produces complex waves with multiple frequencies layered together — that's what gives your voice its unique timbre and character. When we capture these waves digitally, we get a stream of numbers representing the amplitude at each moment in time.

SoundViz processes this data using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis to extract the energy across frequency bands, then maps those values to visual bars. The height of each bar represents the energy of that moment. The color is mapped to amplitude — creating a gradient that shows the dynamics of your voice.

What people do with their voice art

Once you see your voice, you might want to keep it. Here's what our community creates:

"I love you" prints — the most popular phrase, turned into art for a partner or family member.

Baby's first words — parents record their child's first "mama" or "dada" and frame it for the nursery.

Voice tattoos — download the waveform as a vector file and bring it to your tattoo artist. Tyler, our co-founder, has a "Let It Be" tattoo because his mother Mary used to sing it as a lullaby.

Memorial keepsakes — families preserve the voice of a loved one who has passed, turning a voicemail or recording into permanent art.

Just for fun — see what your laugh looks like, compare voices with friends, or visualize your dog's bark.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes! Recording your voice and seeing the waveform is completely free. No account needed to try it. You only pay if you want to order a print or download.

Do you store my voice recording?

No. All audio processing happens in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your recording is never uploaded to our servers unless you choose to save or order a print.

Why does my voice look different each time?

Because you speak slightly differently each time! Tiny variations in speed, volume, emphasis, and breath create different waveform patterns. That's what makes each one unique.

Can I see what music looks like too?

Absolutely! Upload any audio file — songs, podcasts, nature sounds, anything — and see its waveform. Music with dynamic range (quiet to loud) creates the most visually interesting patterns.

What's the best thing to say?

There's no wrong answer! Popular choices: "I love you," your name, a favorite quote, song lyrics, or a phrase that's meaningful to you. Or just say anything and see what your natural voice looks like.
