Sound wave circle generator — your sound, in a ring

Upload a song, a voice or a heartbeat and turn it into a circular waveform. Set the inner radius, rotate it, pick your colors. Free to create.

What is a sound wave circle?

A normal waveform runs left to right. A sound wave circle wraps the same information around a ring: the sound starts at the top, runs clockwise, and every moment becomes a bar pointing outward from an inner circle. Louder moments make longer bars, quiet moments stay short.

It is the same data as a linear waveform, just drawn differently, which is why you can switch between Linear and Radial in SoundViz at any time and keep your colors, text and size.

A ring also leaves a clear space in the middle, which suits a square or round composition.

What you can adjust

Pick Radial and you get two controls that only exist for circles: inner radius (how large the empty center is) and rotation (turn the whole ring to choose where the sound starts and ends).

Everything else works like the linear style: bar width, spacing, roundness, padding, your colors and background, and a title or dedication on the canvas.

Change a slider and the preview updates instantly, so you can find the shape you like by feel.

Three steps to a circular waveform

1. Add your sound. Upload an MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A or AAC file, or record your voice right in the browser.

2. Make it a circle. Switch the waveform type to Radial, then set the inner radius and rotation and choose your colors.

3. Download or print. Anyone can download a PNG for free (with a small watermark). With a free account you also get watermark-free PNG, SVG and PDF files and a video clip. If you love it, order a museum-quality print from $30.

Which sounds make the best circles?

A ring shows the whole sound at once, so sounds with a clear shape work best: a song that builds to a chorus, a spoken name or sentence, a laugh, a heartbeat. A heartbeat makes an even, rhythmic ring; a song with a quiet start and a loud finish makes a ring that grows as it goes around.

Long tracks are fitted to the circle, so a full song and a three-second voice message both fill it. To focus on one moment, trim the audio before you upload it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a sound wave circle generator?

It is a tool that turns audio into a circular waveform: the sound is wrapped around a ring and each moment is drawn as a bar pointing outward. SoundViz does it in your browser, with no design skills needed.

Is the circle generator free?

Designing is free, and anyone can download a PNG (with a small watermark). A free account adds watermark-free PNG, SVG and PDF downloads and a video clip. You only pay if you order a printed version, from $30.

Where does the sound start on the circle?

At the top, running clockwise. The rotation slider turns the whole ring, so you can place the start and the end wherever you like.

Which audio files can I use?

MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A and AAC files, or a recording you make in the browser with your microphone.

What is the difference between linear and radial?

Same sound, different shape. Linear runs left to right and suits wide prints; radial wraps the sound around a circle and suits square or round compositions. You can switch at any time. Try both with your own song.

Can I get a circular waveform as a vector file for printing or a tattoo?

Yes. With a free account you can download your design as SVG or PDF, which stay sharp at any size. See sound wave tattoo ideas for how people use them.

Can I animate a circular waveform?

Yes. Export a short video clip of your design lighting up around the ring. See the sound wave animation generator.
